Jeremiah

“Jeremiah, what seest thou?”

“What seest thou?”

“What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?”

“Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?”

“Where is the LORD?”

“Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods?”

“Is Israel a servant?”

“Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?”

“Now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor?”

“How then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?”

“I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim?”

“Where are thy gods that thou hast made thee?”

“Will ye plead with me?”

“Have I been a wilderness unto Israel?”

“Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire?”

“If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, shall he return unto her again?”

“Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My father, thou art the guide of my youth?”

“Will he reserve his anger for ever?”

“How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?”

“How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet?”

“When thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do?”

“and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, look and take note! Search her squares to see if you can find a man, one who does justice and seeks truth, that I may pardon her.?”

“How shall I pardon thee for this?”

“Shall I not visit for these things?”

“Fear ye not me?”

“Shall I not visit for these things?”

“And what will ye do in the end thereof?”

“Will you not learn a lesson from this, Jerusalem? How long will my wrath burn against you?”

“To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear?”

“To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country?”

“Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, make offerings to Baal, and go after other gods?”

“Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes?”

“Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?”

“Do they provoke me to anger?”

“Shall they fall, and not arise?”

“Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding?”

“We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us?”

“Why do we sit still?”

“Is not the LORD in Zion?”

“Is there no physician there?”

“For how shall I do for the daughter of my people?”

“Shall I not visit them for these things?”

“Who is the wise man, that may understand this?”

“Who would not fear thee, O King of nations?”

“What hath my beloved to do in mine house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee?”

“Doth the way of the wicked prosper?”

“How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein?”

“If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses?”

“Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?”

“What wilt thou say when he shall punish thee?”

“Come these things upon me?”

“Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots?”

“O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?”

“Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save?”

“Hast thou utterly rejected Judah?”

“Who shall have pity upon thee, O Jerusalem?”

“Shall iron break the northern iron and the steel?”

“Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be healed?”

“Who can know it?”

“O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter?”

“Will a man leave the snow of Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field?”

“Came I forth out of the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?”

“Shalt thou reign, because thou closest thyself in cedar?”

“Is this man Coniah a despised broken idol?”

“Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off?”

“Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him?”

“How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies?”

“What is the chaff to the wheat?”

“Is not my word like as a fire?”

“What is the burden of the LORD?”

“Lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished?”

“This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant?”

“Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death?”

“Why will ye die, thou and thy people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as the LORD hath spoken against the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?”

“Therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?”

“Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child?”

“Why criest thou for thine affliction?”

“For who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto me?”

“Is Ephraim my dear son?”

“How long wilt thou go about, O thou backsliding daughter?”

“Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?”

“Is there any thing too hard for me?”

“Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth?”

“Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?”

“Is there any word from the LORD?”

“What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison ?”

“The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?”

“Is not this man discouraging the soldiers and all the people?”

“If I declare it unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death?”

“What did you say to the king? What did the king say to you?”

“Dost thou certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay thee?”

“Wherefore should he slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?”

“And now thus says the Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel: Why do you commit this great evil against yourselves, to cut off from you man and woman, infant and child, from the midst of Judah, leaving you no remnant?”

“Who is this that cometh up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers?”

“Why are thy valiant men swept away?”

“O thou sword of the LORD, how long will it be ere thou be quiet?”

“How can it be quiet, seeing the LORD hath given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore?”

“Hath Israel no sons?”

“Gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter?”

“Is wisdom no more in Teman?”

“And art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished?”

“And who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her?”
